Organizational
structure is becoming more and more team-oriented. While there
is still
a top down hierarchy in most companies,
levels of management are becoming flatter and teamwork is more
the rule than the exception. In this three-hour program work
teams conduct two very effective team exercises, and all team
members complete the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) psychometric
instrument, the most popular and powerful personality assessment
tool in use today. Each individual’s MBTI is scored and
a four-page interpretive descriptor is provided. Team members
learn about themselves and each other and how to use that knowledge
to foster and sustain a productive and effective team.
The MBTI is the most widely used psychometric instrument in
the world for helping individuals and work teams develop and
enhance their skills at problem-solving, decision-making, and
communication, both listening and speaking. It is also a key
tool used for helping teams identify how obstacles, stress, and
potential conflicts may arise that might threaten team performance.
Learning objectives for this program include:
- Individual
and team personality assessment
- Understanding
and getting on the team agenda
- Team building
exercise #1 – What
Did You Say?
- Team building
exercise #2 – The Gold
Watch
- Listening
skills
- Verbal
communications skills, both oral and written
- Individual
and team Values clarification
- How the
team can translate customer values into corporate value
- The
concept of T.E.A.M. (Together Everyone Achieves More)
The MBTI provides each individual:
- A
description of their personality type
- Their
personal strengths
- Insight
into how others perceive them
- Their
potential growth areas
- Their
contributions to the organization
- Their
leadership style
- Their
preferred work environment
- Awareness
of potential pitfalls they may have that might impede performance
- Their
preferred approach to problem-solving
- Their
preferred approach to decision-making and
strategic planning
- Suggestions
for further development
The
MBTI assessment helps leaders and teams celebrate their differences.
They come
to understand how each other perceives
the outer world of people and things, and how they each prefer
to go about making decisions and solving problems. Team members
come to understand the “why” behind their co-workers’ behaviors,
which helps in building trust and empathy within the group. Leaders
and team members realize that they may be able to approach the
same challenge from completely different perspectives and still
achieve positive, desired outcomes.
